About Center Stage Theatrical Productions

Center Stage Theatrical Productions LLC strives to enrich the artistic culture of our community by providing artists of all skill levels the opportunity to learn new skills and sharpen existing ones across a variety of stagecraft areas. We seek to nourish the upcoming talents of potential actors, vocalists, dancers, and even technicians who are destined to make their mark on the world with professional and collaborative creations.

Center Stage Theatrical Productions LLC is a couple of different things. First, it's a school for people of all ages and from all walks of life to safely explore new forms of physical and verbal art skills and discover the ways in which they enjoy expressing themselves. Our courses are effective for those simply looking to practice their art recreationally as well as for those looking to pursue a legitimate performance career. Second, it's a mentorship company, here to help YOUR program launch, grow, and sustain successful productions with results that leave audiences wanting more.

About Fran Spector Atkins and SpectorDance

SpectorDance Company creates and presents issue-based multidisciplinary works using a signature style that blends visual media, verbal material, and music with dance. SpectorDance works look at some of today’s most pressing topics such as climate change, gang violence and juvenile justice, agricultural history, military family sacrifice and more. Each SpectorDance project begins with the selection of a topic. We then embark upon extensive research and seek out experts in the field to interview on film. Once these interviews have been collected, selected sound bites are woven into a music mix with related visual images. Finally, dancers explore movements that physically express the concepts covered.  Our artistic practice weaves together factual information with aesthetic elements in ways that reach people’s hearts. SpectorDance performances use real life stories as the foundation for developing creative performance works. Along with every project, SpectorDance offers associated movement workshops. SpectorDance believes in the transformative and healing power of dance.

Fran Spector Atkins is the founder and director of SpectorDance.  Fran’s creative works are inspired by her vision to create socially relevant art that merges factual and aesthetic elements. She begins with extensive research and filmed interviews with experts and community members related to each topic. Collaboration with outstanding non-arts organizations is key to every project. Examples include Figures in the Dust, a collaboration with the National Steinbeck Center about Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath; Common Ground, a collaboration with the United Farm Workers, about California agriculture; East West, a collaboration with Rancho Cielo about gang violence; Ocean Trilogy, our first collaboration with Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) about hopeful possibilities for ocean health from cutting- edge ocean science research; When You Were Gone, a collaboration with the Porter Youth Center for military families, about deployment from the perspective of youth, and In Real Time, a virtual piece about the Coronavirus experience based on interviews with SpectorDance company performers. Her current project, Wildfires is about Indigenous fire ecology and will premiere in late fall 2023.

For these projects and others, Fran has received numerous awards including the prestigious Dewar’s Young Artist Recognition Award for the State of California and was featured in Carmel Magazine as one of 10 individuals making “altruistic contributions to the community,” and she was featured in the film Luminaries of Monterey County. SpectorDance was selected by the Arts Council for Monterey County as the “Outstanding Arts Organization in Monterey County,” and as a national finalist for the Ovation TV award for “Excellence in the Performing Arts.” She has twice been a presenter at TedX Monterey and in 2020, she was honored to have received the Florence Haspel Zeve Award for Outstanding Female Artist in Monterey serving Women, Families and the Arts.

Why Students Love Our Programs

Reg Huston

"I have learned so much being a fellow actor with Jeff, while directing him myself and by being directed by him! He is total theater."

Maria Elena Mejia

"Working with Jeff as a cast member, I learned a lot in areas as broad as stage presence and as specific as breath support techniques, working one on one or even just watching him on stage. Having him as a director has been one of the best experiences I have had working with a director, because he is fully there to support me in my art and wants us each to shine in the ways that are best for us, balancing having fun and staying professional."

Rebecca Serrano

“Working with Jeff in theater hasn’t only been extremely fun, but also a great learning experience. I see him as a mentor and can’t wait to do more shows!”

Fabian Arreola

Working with Jeff and the team has taught me more about who I am than I can ever thank them for. I love doing theater, and I didn't even know it at first. I can't wait to do more work with them in the future!
